this happened last night in an 8th grade game. home team down 1 point with 5 seconds left. visitors are taking the ball out of bounds under home team basket. visitor gets confused and shoots the ball in home team basket and gets fouled. what do you have?

What did you do? It is either OOB if no bonus in effect or 1+1 or double bonus if it is. Count the score, but it is NOT a shooting foul.

Count the score?

If the foul occurred before the ball went through the basket, the whistle for the foul makes the ball dead immediately. If the whistle went after the ball went through the basket, the ball is dead and the foul shouldn't have been called unless the contact was intentional or flagrant-- and then it would have to be a technical foul too.

I really can't see any normal situation where you would count the score.

I agree with JR, you can't count the basket because the ball becomes dead as soon as the player is fouled because by rule it is not a try. Give them a spot or the bonus.

I stand corrected on the 'count the hoop' part. If I had a choice of being wrong here or on the floor, I'll choose here. Thanks.

i was not on the game, but the officials waived off the basket and shot a 1 and 1 at the other end.
