I was discussing a situation the other day with some fellow referees when this question came up: What do you call if a ball goes up through the goal and comes back down through the same goal?
We knew that the goal couldn't count, but weren't sure if it resulted in an alternating possession situation or a violation. Two 6-year guys looked through the rule book and the case book while I officiated and couldn't find the ruling. Does anyone know? I've looked myself, but haven't found anything yet. |

I found it for you. It ia a violation.
RULE 9 SECTION 4 TRAVEL, KICK, FIST A player shall not run (travel) with the ball, intentionally kick it, strike it with the fist or cause it to enter and pass through the basket from below. NOTE: Kicking the ball is a violation only when it is a positive act; accidentally striking the ball with the foot or leg is not a violation. ------------------ Ron Seattle Officials - Women's Basketball [This message has been edited by Ron Pilo (edited January 11, 2000).] |
