Question

I am studying in the "Crew of Two" Officials Guidebook and there is an illustration on page 75. The illustration shows A1 driving to the basket from the trail's primary. B2 comes over to stop the drive. A1 then passes to A2 who is filling the opposite lane, catches the pass and lays it in. Two situations - first sitch
If A1 is called for a foul after the pass and during the start of the shot by A2 or after the shot is released, and the basket is good. Does the foul on A1 cancel the basket by A2?
2nd sitch - Now B2 is called for the blocking foul, basket goes by A2. Team A will either get to shoot the bonus or get the ball for a throw in. Since this is a dbl whamy against team B, I am told to see if there was an advantage created by B2 when he fouled A1. Therefore, ignoring the blocking foul, in the case that A2 is going to get a score. What is your opinion here? This is a tough area for me.

First sitch (foul on A1):
  • Before shot is released...dead ball...no shot
  • After shot is released...ball remains live...shot counts

Seconds sitch (B2 fouls passer A1):
I usually ignore this foul since A2 is getting the shot they wanted. To call the foul on B2 would penalize A in this case. If the contact is extreme or excessive, you may have to call the foul to keep control.
