Okay, here is another thing that happened to me. Clock ticking down, Team A is behind fouling. A1 does the quick foul on B1 and then pushes him out of bounds. I called the foul on A1 followed by a "T" foul for the unsportsmanlike conduct. That puts B1 on the bench with his 5th foul. A1 is shooting 2 free throws as well as the two tech. He miss both free throws and then air balls the first tech shot. Fustrated, he punched the ball and it came right to me at a high velocity and I caught it. Everyone was hollaring for a tech on the free thrower. His fustration was on himself for missing all of the shots. Team A was up by at least 10 points. So I had a talk with him before that last free throw. My question is would you have wacked him for his actions?

First question I have for you, is how can you have an unsportsmanlike conduct T on a player when there is contact? You have a dead ball, so any contact that you rule a foul is just a technical foul. Unsportsmanlike fouls would be for things having to do with conduct, not contact.

To try to answer your question that would depend on what I saw after the FTs. That is called judgment and if you feel that the action was "unsportsmanlike" than you have to take action. If you feel it was not that type of behavior, then you have nothing. I know that giving a T would likely not be my first choice in that situation. I also have never seen a kid react that way by missing FTs either. I would have to see the play in order to come to that conclusion. You were there. I am reading your story on a computer screen. Not much I can say about this one outside of speculation and assumption on my part.

If he got the ball to a high velocity with a punch, he might very well get punishment enough when he feels his knuckles in the morning. I wouldn't T for this, but I would give him "the look" and sort of pause briefly until he pulled himself together.

For the original push of the player oob, I might have given an intentional, instead of a T. I'm finding that this hard fouls fall more gracefully into the category of intentional rather than T. It's a more severe punishment than the common foul, but not quite as emotional as the T.

It would still be a T if the player after fouling decides to push the player out of bounds. The ball is dead after the first foul. Any other action is considered to be a dead ball foul, which is now a T. If you decide the acts are two different acts, then you have to call the second one a T. You could call it an intentional technical, but it is still a technical all the same.

I think the A's and B's got mixed up in mid-story.

Don't give him a T. Give him an A for accuracy. If he fisted the ball and it went over in the corner of the gym, he'd get a T.

BTW, fisting the ball is a violation like intentionally kicking it. Reset the clock to 15 if it is below 15.
