Okay I can see that I might be looking for boogers here but it is bothering me. Kids jumping up from the bench and not checking in. This is HS BB, by now they should know how to check in.
I have sent them back to the table, I have talked to the coach about it and then I have the kids giving me the bum's rush from the bench. My question is would I be venturing in stepping on it land if I Gave a T as prescribed in the rules ? And if so have many of you have actually done it this year ? |

Chess Ref,
Happened to me twice last night without penalty. Ist of two, #4 runs onto the floor and comes to the lower space. ![]() 2nd, I'm in the middle of reporting and #3 runs onto the floor from the table. Sent him back. Finished reporting and beckoned him. Later, he too said, "Sorry!" mick |

In l'il kids, you may want to cut 'em some slack, but they should know better in high school ball. We instruct our officials to follow the same procedure too- one warning per team and then call it. It's amazing how quickly they learn how to follow the proper substitution procedure after they've been "T"d up. |

2 this year. (1 for me / one for a partner) PreGame Discussion. Its by rule a T if the a) enter without reporting to table, or b) enter without beckoning. If both are violated - automatic T first occurance for JV and above. Lower levels we agree to warning once.

I'm a softball ump who works the table for local high school basketball games. We have to remind players all the time to check in on the X where the official scorekeeper is and not their own scorekeeper. Some coaches will remind the players themselves after a few times of telling them, some coaches think we're being nit picky.
When a team has players that don't check in a few times, we'll blow the horn and call the refs over. I have seen some refs call a technical and I have seen some refs ask us why we were stopping the game and calling them over for something like this. I guess it all depends on the crew. |
