Hello,

I am a new official with no games under my belt. My question is, does anyone know of any good floor mechanics training material I can get my hands on?

I passed the NFHS exam and have joined my local association. While all the officials in the association have experience, I do not and would like to learn proper floor positioning and mechanics.

I mentioned to our rules interpreter that I would like to observe some of the officials during their assigned scrimmages. He took my information and never contacted me. So, I figured, instead of waiting for a call/email, I'll begin my training with the proper material.

Any advice or assistance someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice Thanksgiving....

Referee Magazine (www.referee.com) has a couple of good books, one for 2-Man, one for 3-Man. They also offer smaller books for working Trail, Lead and Center.

Call him back, ask him again for a schedule of scrimmages you can observe. Or the name of someone else in your association you can talk to about this & other things. Or call your assignor & ask him for a schedule. Or call a few high schools in your area, ask them if they have scrimmages scheduled.

Good luck.

officiating.com has tons of stuff on dvd, vhs, or cd. when I first started I got the fundamental three man mechanics, and advanced three man mechanics dvd. Helped out pretty good. If you learn anything, learn to rotate well, don't just sit there, that is unless you work somewhere where there is just two man crew.

Also in your officials manual, it has all the coverages and information you need to get started.

Wink Stick with it!!

`Dacodee, Make sure you contact your association and tell them your still needing help! Reading all the books and magazines is alright but, but it is still no comparison to actually watching a real game or scrimmage. Theres nothing like real game experience for learning. So make sure you contact them to see if they have a mentoring program you can join very helpful! good luck

Yep, read the manuals and then watch a veteran crew. It'll make sense.

take a video recorder and film a bit for refresher and reinforcement.
