Excessive Technicals

Is there a limit to the number of technical fouls officials can assess against a single player or team member in one game? For instance, if a A1 earns two technical fouls and is ejected, can he/she get more technical fouls? If a player fouls out with five "ordinary" fouls (not technical fouls), can he still get more technical fouls? Can she/he get two technical fouls from the bench and be "ejected" after he/she is disqualified? This might affect his status for future games, depending on the state in which he plays. (Maybe this situation would be governed by each state's rules.) Are there other similar circumstances that might have interesting results?

I understand that at some point, the player will be asked to leave the bench/court.

There is not limit by rule. Common sense might suggest that you would not just keep giving technical fouls over and over again. But if the officials deem it necessarily, you can give more technical fouls after a player or coach is ejected.

By rule, there are no limit.

But common sense should take over at some point and you should find another way to handle the situation.

In college, once a participant has received 2 T's, no more can be assessed to that person. (Thank you Bobby Knight.)

The NBA has the same interp/rule as NCAA.

If a player has 5 fouls and fouled out they are bench personnel. NOthing says that a disqualified player cant pick up a couple. In most states this does affect eligibility for future games.

My opinion is that if a player is DQ'd and sitting on the bench he can be given T's.

Be careful about the term ejected. A player is never ejected but disqualified for two T's and by definition is no different than fouling out. If you are doing an adult league I would eject (make the person leave the gym) after the second. If a coach picks up 2 directs they are history and I will never give them a third. I tell the coach they are gone... and they keep protesting I will look at forfeits before I call the 3rd T

Just to be clear, that's only true for FED. In college, 2 direct T's results in ejection for a player or coach. See NCAA 4-20-2.b.

We were talking at our association meeting, and as soon as the coach is notified that a player in disqualified, any T's would be bench technicals, therefore an indirect to the head coach.

True, but they are still assessed as directs to the offending party. No limit.
