this is the year of blow outs for me. i think all but about 10% of my games have been blow outs. and after last night's games, i realized i wasn't staying focused on the game as much as if it were close.

any suggestions on how to keep your focus during a blow out? i have been using those games to work on mechanics and my position on the floor. any thing special you vets do during a blow out to stay focused?

thanks!

talk to yourself out loud. Quietly but out loud. It really does help.

Just be worried if you answer back! It might confuse you.

Break the game into sections. Think to yourself, "I'm going to work the best game of the year between now and the next dead ball." Think about working hard in small blocks of time. I use this anytime I'm just not "there" on a given night.

I just try to remember that people notice when you aren't working at your best. Conversely, some people WILL notice that you are giving it your all, even though everyone in the place knows that you're working a crap game.

Not trying to play amateur psychologist, but do you know why you aren't staying focused? Is it because during the late periods, you can't get into a rythem since the team leading is getting both easy baskets on their end and preventing baskets on the other end? Is it because the fans are no longer in the game? Is it because you don't typically have both coaches talking like they normally would?

Or, is it because you are taking the attitude of "let's get out of here and just make sure we get all the felonies prosecuted, not worrying about the misdemeanors?" Not saying this isn't justified in some cases, but try not to let the difference on the scoreboard affect how you work that particular series of play. I'll admit to having been there.

John; on your way to the game think abt what your weakest thing you do when you are on the court. And when you have a blow out, that will give you time to work on that.

I think we all loose focus, but i do what the other guy said sometimes i talk, sometimes i listen to the crowd, they will always keep you focused.

Or if it get so bad make the wrong call against the loosing coach you will wake up real quick because he will be on you for the rest of the game and it will be your fault why they lost by 20+.

Keep it simple

When I am working a blow out, I use this as a time to put extra polish on my mechanics. I try to get my count as close as I can with the clock. I try to make sure that my arm is as straight as possible and that I don't get lazy and call everything a hold or push. I work on communicating to my partner(s) where the ball will be on a foul etc... Basically I just try to get back to the basics.

During a blowout, I usually look in the crowd and picture the MILF's jumping over a fence. Not for too long though. It has a tendency to put me to sleep for some reason.

It's true, it's true......

Dunno why, but I just remembered this joke:

Hear about the cow who injured itself jumping over the barb wire fence?

It was an udder mess.

Udderly disgusting.

I suppose you can read a few more of these posts, take note of how you're staying awake, and then apply that knowledge to those blowouts as well.

Just keep telling yourself to stay focused. Talk to yourself and remind yourself that to the 10 kids on the floor that's the most important game in the world tonight. I sometimes try to work on fine tuning something in my game.

Most of the time when you are focused you dont care for some reason.

All you have to say is that when you arent focused is when all the crap happens and you have no idea or someone gets hurt. Dont worry about getting to McD's.

BTW in a blowout. The more focused you are the faster the game will go, because yo really will know who is up and by what, and you can selectively choose to make the calls that need to be than or leave alone...
