So Juulie, how long have you been a dinosaur, anyway? And how can you not eat a whole candy bar. For me a regular bar was two bites and king size was only three? Maybe I know why I lost about 30 pounds when I quit eating sweets.

In Georgia, unlike in NC (I lived in Greensboro for 4 years), we have only 1 VB offical for the match. With net fouls, back row attacks, illegal hits, line violations, illegal blocks... that's alot to see and officate. You'd have your hands full.

And ...like the college officials say - "volleyball is easy to officiate, but difficult to officate WELL".

Bktballref - my advice - stick to basketball.

Double standard? yea, I guess so. I do expect better behavior from Christians. And I expect adults involved in a Christian school to demonstrate good teaching skills, and healthy leadership. And when they don't, I'm disappointed, even upset.

It's not okay in a public school, but in that case, I don't expect as much.

And I'm always surprised that parents allow their children to be subjected to the kind of stuff this coach was doing, whether the school is private or public.

It is not a double standard to expect more from a school that has a "special" mission that a public school does not have. If I can be expelled from a school for committing a sin against God and if I were to do similar things at a public school and not even suspended, that is not the same to me.

I would hope that we would expect a certain standard of behavior from coaches regardless of where they coach...if the behavior is unaccaptable, then it's unacceptable - whether it's a Christian school, public school, alternative school, etc., etc...maybe I just have a different perspective as a teacher in a "public" school and a football coach at a "Christian" school. I'm tired of hearing comments from officials like "Hey, are you guys gonna want to hold a prayer meeting or anything?" before the start of a game...or the best one from last Friday, when one of our players is down on the field and we ask the official if we can go out to him and his response was "Go ahead. Go lay hands on him and see if you can heal him." Followed by his laughter...

So I guess maybe I'm just looking for officials who treat all coaches and players the same...who have the same amount of disgust for bad behavior whatever the school is.

I do have the same level of disgust for certain behavior, regardless of the school. I still don't expect it at the ms level of a Christian school. I just don't understand how parents can think that's okay.

As for the ref who thought you should lay on hands, I hope you reported him. Talk about taunting!

I have a friend who teaches at a private Christian School and he tells me that there are two main groups of kids at his school.

1) Christians.

2) Kids who got in too much trouble at their first school and are now being sent to Christian School by their parents in hopes of saving them.

He said that the mix makes it end up being about the same environment that you'd find at any public school.

Don't get me wrong here...I personally (as a Christian dad and a coach) hold my sons and athletes and myself to a vey high standard. I think you know that from being around me, Juulie... But when I officiate, I hold everyone to the same standard regardless of what school they coach/play for... that's all I'm trying to say. The fact that it's a "Christian" school does not change the fact that the people involved are still imperfect, fallible humans...

I've been saying for a couple years that I'm going to look into it. I think I'll sign up for this spring.

Don't do it if your just looking for "easy money".

The game is easy to officiate from a physical perspective, you don't hardly have to move. However, the mental side and concentration required is significant. It took me a good three seasons to get comfortable officiating a VB match.

Just like any other sport, it does get easier as you gain more experience, but good officials keep working to get better.
