I was reffing an 8th grade volleyball game yesterday afternoon. The gym was small, and the baskets were fixed not movable. A server stepped back, gave the ball a good solid overhand whack, and the ball went sailing up into the basket supports, pinged around like a pinball and then dropped straight down onto the server's head. It happened so fast she didn't even have time to get out of the way. Either that or she was young and naive enough that she didn't have the sense to get out of the way. Once it was determined that she wasn't hurt, everyone laughed.

Wow, you do live in an unusual universe.

I can't imagine a gym full of 8th graders not laughing as soon as the ball bounced off ther friend's skull.

Question

Juulie - if the ball had gone through one of the hoops, would it be a 2 or a 3?

In volley-basket-pinball, the points come in multiples of 50. Getting the ball in the basket on a serve is 350 points.

It was a mostly empty gym with few 8th graders, and a few parents. The 8th graders who told their parents they were staying to watch the volleyball match were out behind the school doing whatever it is that 8th graders do, and don't want their parents to know about.
