Although we may never agree on the outcome of these rambling threads that get closed from time to time, I think the exchange of opinion is the second greatest feature of this board (after education).

Even if you think various people are talking out of their butts, when you understand that intelligent people can look at the same thing as you and see something entirely different, that's when you begin the road to tolerance.

Sometimes there is no right or wrong, just different.

I completely agree.

Peace

I disagree, or maybe we're just different. Seriously, I agree with both of you. To me, these discussions are why we post here.

BktBallRef Mon Sep 19, 2005 12:19pm

Then post them on the General Discussion board because they have nothing to do with basketball.

Kudos to whoever locked the stupid things.

I hate to be a grump, but I agree with Tony. Those discussions of race and/or politics are NEVER productive on this forum. Move them to the General Forum, so they can be beaten to death.

Junker Mon Sep 19, 2005 12:55pm

I didn't know we were getting into those "race" threads. I agree that we don't need to be that far off topic.

TriggerMN Mon Sep 19, 2005 12:57pm

Just as off topic as a baseball thread in the basketball forum, right???

ChuckElias Mon Sep 19, 2005 01:11pm

Trigger, the problem is not that they're off-topic. We have off-topic threads in here all the time, including obviously the baseball thread. The problem is that the race/politics threads descend almost immediately into anger, name-calling, or just plain nonsense. They are never productive.

Good to see Trigger around again. I guess he's done licking his wounds after taking a whipping at 500 a couple weeks ago.

500 ?

Junker,
Are you talking No trump, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades, 4 thru nine, and Jokers?

Yup, Trigger got a little lesson from me not long ago.

Neat, Junker!
It has been years since I have enjoyed that game.
Although, gittin' the cards certainly carries a lot of weight, I consider 500 one of the purest forms of card playing in that luck seemingly plays a smaller part of the result.

We played a lot in college and a bunch of us got together for a football game not long ago. We started playing at about 12 AM and finished at about 3AM. It was a blast! The only thing missing was oversleeping and having to run to a 9 AM class wearing the same clothes as the night before. In Trigger's defense, my partner and I had the Joker most of the night.

Sometimes, the post players are bumping, pushing, grabbing and chatting and as much as we don't like to do it, the double foul is the only way out.
Rather than wait for an escalation, we must stop play and go to Point of Interuption. :)

Hey!

Can get back on-topic about off-topic ramblings?
