Bad subject to start a thread, but here is what happened:

I'm L, ball is bouncing toward my right, heading out of bounds off red. A red player is walking along the endline (back from getting a drink or something) toward me. The ball is bouncing (almost rolling) toward him. I'm not looking at him, but watching the action underneath where players are scrambling for the ball. Red 6 reaches down and causes the ball to stay in bounds, hoping I don't see. I whack him right away for unsporting conduct.

Anybody disagree or have suggestions?

I have no problems with that call. Depending on the mood of the rec game, you might have been able to just award a throw-in to the other team but a T is supported by rule and should keep the stupidity in check for the rest of the game.

I would probably just give the ball to the opponent.

What age, adult rec league? 8 year old rec league?

I think the answer really depends on the answer to the above question.

I'm not going to disagree with you and say that it was the wrong call. It was fine. Depending on the age I might be a little more hesistant, but a fine call. Nothing wrong with it.

This was Men's A league. Some guys (supposedly) played D1 ball. So these guys get on you pretty good throughout the game.

Then it's automatic. You probably owed him one anyway.

Adult league, if the guy did it and then stood there with a smile on his face looking up at the ceiling with the "who me" attitude, in other words and obvious joke, then I would let it go. If he kept walking trying to really get away with it, T him up.

I know when I play adult league I talk to the refs a lot, not complaining, but like after I hack someone and I am next to the ref at the FT line I might say, "you sure about that one, looked like player control to me". I would say this only in a situation where I really hacked a guy and the ref knew I wasn't really complaining.

So I could also see myself doing what this player did but more in a playful way just to rib the ref a little, but I would have been smiling and broke into a laugh when the ref put 2 and 2 together.

So it really depends on the amount of deception the player was using. Don't whack a guy for trying to have a little fun in an adult league. Whack a guy if he is trying to cheat.

If it's really clear that the ball is going out of bounds, and no one has a chance at it, and if A6 is clearly just goofing around, then I agree. But if he interferes with the play in any way, even if it's just supposed to be funny, then I say whack away,

Amen! I was about to post the same thing. I know, I know, someone is going to discuss how men's leagues help your game management and you get to see things that don't happen often in the regular season. Sigh

And you probably didn't want to see them in the first place!
