I have been roped into it too. Mostly for baseball. I teach fifth grade and I go to see my students play all the time. The parents know I am a basketball official and they point to me when an official is needed. (Because of that, I have started showing up to games in the third inning.)

It was not as bad as I thought it would be, but I know I messed some things up. No one really said anything, though. I was fortunate like some of the previous posters, the games have been rather routine.

THe kids really do not question me either. Usually one of my students (or former students) will say, "Don't mess with him. He's tough." That takes care of a lot. It also explains why I have no trouble with the in-town basketball league players.
