I don't know how many of you get Referee Magazine (if you don't you should, it is great), but there was an article in there regarding the locker-room taping of some basketball officials in Alaska. I know that we have covered this in other threads, but this article did have some details in it that I didn't know before.
What I wanted to talk about was the editorial by the magazines editor-in-chief that discussed the issue. The jist of his editorial was that officials need to be careful what they are saying, and to whom, and that if they have biases or negative opinions about a coach, then they shouldn't be on that coach's games because it will affect their performance. Just wondering if anyone saw the article or the editorial and had any comments about it.

I read the article. It clarified a lot more than the original internet article that was passed around on this site and other sites. I think the officials were not thinking straight when they were having a conversation like that with people in and out of the "locker room." Either they should have asked for those people to leave or they should have kept their mouth shut until they got somewhere else to talk. I cannot blame the officials for the comments of the guy that entered the room to "raze them," but I do blame them for engaging in the conversation with the inappropriate comments. Those 3 officials are the one that lost out, not the guy giving them crap for the behavior of the coach.
BTW, I was right about the coach filing a complaint with the EEOC. The Referee Magazine article made that very clear. Peace

Being a rookie, I do subscribe to the Magazine. I read the article and I found it interesting that official will conduct themselves in that manner. When I first started, I had a veteran official say these words. "Conduct yourself in (in public) a manner not to bring discredit upon you or the craft. You never know who is watching or listening" I have those words in my journal I keep to remind me daily.

I have not received mine yet but look forward to reading it.
Hey here's an idea for those officials: why not tell them "I lost my mind"? It works when coaches say that.

Even in the original article, it was pretty clear that these officials were not ALL alone - and in fact, for a time there was someone in the room working on a computer. This was not 3 guys in a secluded room.
Loose lips....
