Question

Wisconsin high school is phasing in 3-Crew over a three-year period with 2005-06 State tournament. 2006-07 Sectional games. 2007-08 Regional finals.

A few clinics are being sponsored over the summer to begin the officiating transition effort....however, anyone aware of summer tournaments, scrimmages, AAU, and other opportunities to work in a 3-crew format over the summer in the Southern Wisconsin / Northern Illinois area?

One thing I've done is contact different tournaments and request working 3 man. Sometimes you have to take the pay cut and split the 2 man money 3 ways. I work a Sunday night HS league and we go 3 man and put all the money in a golf fund and the 3 of us hit some different courses in the area. Taking the pay cut sucks, but in the summer I'm personally working to get better and spend some time with my partners for fun.

Got a flier in the mail the other day. Nebraska's having a couple of 3-whistle camps this summer, since the postseason in 2006-07 will all be 3-whistle. They're giving the camp participants this summer (and next summer?) first assignment priority for the postseason when they start using 3-whistle. Now, that leads to the question whether the regular season will change to 3-whistle in 2006-07 or if it'll be another year or two after that. Wait and see I guess.

It's hard to say how these "phase ins" will proceed. Consistency will be the big thing as I believe most schools will at least give it a try when they can. (ie: some nights teams will have 3-person....other nights, 2-person).

Regarding fees....most conferences are deciding to use the "3-for-2" formula until the demand for 3-crew can be justified.

It would be interesting to hear from those of you who went through a transition in your state and how was it implimented. What were the positives?....what were the negatives?

Marvin Sykes camp. Always has a crew coming from Milwaukee.

Also JRutledge posted the following earlier and I'm reposting for you.

http://www.ohassignments.com/basketballclinicinfo.htm

These are in the Chicago area.

Also, http://www.ihsa.org/official/clinics.htm has a listing for all of the camps in the state. I'm sure you can find something closer.

THose town names look familiar... where have I just seen those in the last few hours... hm... why does that ring a bell?

Holy Toledo, is it a complete coincidence that you posted this today just when the newspaper is giving other info about Zion, and Waukegon? Or am I just being extremely obtuse?

Some of us Wisconsinites use it as a discriptor for "3-Whistle" or "3-Person" basketball officiating crews.

Juulie, you must be referring to the horrible case of the young girls that were murdered, which happened in that region. Yes, quite coincidental.
