Is mileage to and from a camp a legal IRS deduction?

Talk to a CPA

Check with your CPA to be sure. I am only speaking from my personal experience.

Usually any expense that you have to intake to when you are doing what is essentially a business, all those expenses can be written off. Travel expenses and hotel or lodging expenses are all apart of those deductions.

My CPA has been using mileage as a deduction for me for over 10 years. I would say yes.

Are you attending the camp or working at the camp?

If working, yes.

If attending, it is an education expense. See the IRS publication at http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc513.html for details.

I am trying out at the camp. Does that count as work?

Jackdog, Is officiating your full-time job? If not, what mileage can you count?

Yes, the camp is out of my hometown.

Yes it's my full time job. Ask your CPA but I think you can count all milage to and from the camp. Good luck at the camp! Relax and make every movement look natural. Key word. RELAX.
