NFHS rules, when does the period end: horn, clock or light?

Nevadaref Sat Apr 09, 2005 02:24am

NFHS

The HORN.
See 1-14 and 5-6

Mark Padgett Sat Apr 09, 2005 11:56am

Also - the fourth period doesn't end until one team has at least one point more than the other.

OK - that's my rule.

Nope - Dr. Naismith himself gave me the copyright.

Since I'm not that old, do I owe you copyright infringement costs?

I don't know what you guys are arguing about. That's not Mark's rule or Mike's rule. It's the FED rule. The fourth quarter simply continues, four minutes at a time, until one team has more points than the other when the horn sounds. OT periods are simply extensions of the 4th quarter. :)

"Overtime period". You should know that better than me! :p
...Unless I didn't catch something?

H.Keith Sun Apr 10, 2005 02:43pm

Speaking of overtime, we had two officials (Nassau co. N.Y.) officiate six(6) overtimes in one game, this past season, This was a high school game. both officials were given awards at our annual dinner 3/23, right now we are trying to research and see if this is a national record, ( it is in new york) if any can help with info please forward to me, and tanks!!!
P.S. will furnish names and schools on request.

For some reason I don't think that is a national record, I think I heard of a case of more OTs than that.

I've had games showing 0:00 on the clock and no horn has gone off. There was always like 0:00.4 left on the clock. :D

Back then, they were only 3 minutes each, I think. But still. . .

There were so many overtimes that they switched to daylight savings time before the game finally ended. And the poor refs didn't get paid for the extra hour! :D

Not really worth a lick, QuebecRef87.
I was a 17-yr.-old second string guard.
Chuck talked about "back then"... and I caught a flashback.
Sorry.

Mick,
Are you saying that you PLAYED in this game?!

You seem to lack self-esteem, mick! :) Why did you delete your own posts?

Oh! By the way,

"Not worth a lick", combined with "3.2 ppg, ... but 4.5 fouls per" means that Mick was the prototype for another Michigan hoopster -- Bill Laimbeer. :D

"Roman troops were paid with salt as part of their compensation for service. Salt was considered precious for any number of reasons. To state that "He ain't worth his salt" is to imply he didn't earn his pay or he just ain't worth it period. I assume "aint worth a lick" is another way of saying "it", being the operative word here, isn't worth the effort to fix. " ;)

Chuck,
Yer making me flashback again!

I shook Bill Laimbeer's very large hand once in the parking lot of the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.

Now, please stop.

Senility isn't measured by what in the far past is remembered. You know you're really senile when you can't remember what you had for breakfast yesterday. So....

what DID you have for breakfast yesterday?! (Hint: it was Sunday.)
