Coach on losing team is down 2 points, calls timeout late in the game, about ten seconds left after a foul on a three point shot. His player is going to the free throw line to shoot 3 free throws when play resumes. Coach sends his player to the free throw line to practice the free throws during the time-out that he called. Is this legal to do under High School rules? I could not find in the rule book where it is not. I would be interested in hearing other opinions or rulings on this particular matter. I would also be interested in knowing what this particular rule would be under NBA or college rules.

glowe,
They cannot do that in our games, cuz one of us always is holding onto the ball as a proper mechanic.
I honestly do not remember a rule, though.

Lightbulb Got it!

I knew I had seen this rule in the book somewhere, and I just spent about 10 minutes combing through the rule book to find it. Rule 2.7.4 says the official will "Prohibit practice during a dead ball, except between halves. We used to go to our other gym when I played in HS to run plays and things during half time, and I now suppose it was because of this rule

Talking Positive number for an IQ?

If it was a coach, it was probably intended to be a complement - we consider most ref IQs to be sub-zero.
