Georgia Tech vs. Va. Tech......
Loose ball near midcourt line in Ga. Tech's frontcourt.
GT player gets control of loose ball, and then one foot comes down in the backcourt. Violation called.
Billy Packer, in his never ending wisdom says, "The official missed that one. The ball never went into the backcourt".

And the networks continue to hire him.........

You'd think after all these years the guy would have the common sense to open up a rulebook.

Oh wait...this is Billy Packer we're talking about.

We're gonna have to start another "Packer-isms" thread....

That's just bad.

Packer isn't always wrong. The screen in the Iowa/Wisconsin game looked legal. :D

I listened to the game on XM, and I only heard the last 3 min. I don't know who the commentators were, but one of them was going ballistic about the calls at the end of the game. He was complaining about calls, then about no-calls, it was almost humorous.

And in other breaking news: the sky is blue, grass is green, and hope springs eternal in the springtime on the north side of Chicago.

I just returned home from the State Finals. Anyways, I was watching this game in between sessions this weekend and I just started to laugh and thought what a joke this guy is.

:D

Nice.

BTW...Billy Packer doesn't get paid for knowing the rules. In fact he doesn't get paid A LOT for knowing the rules. But I do think the NCAA should police the announcers better, there's really no reason for the yahoo announcers to make believe they know how to officiate the game better than the guys on the floor.

tjones1 Sat Mar 19, 2005 01:13am

The stupidest comment I heard today was on a fast break the player scored (I don't remember what game), and the announcer said: they are going to let that one go cause he already has one foul. Showed the replay, no where near a foul. I got a laugh out of this one!

Ok, Tony, tells us who did you get to take that picture of you! :)

Seriously, thanks for sharing that pic. It is now my favorite image of this year's NCAA tourney.
