Looking for opinions on whether it's feasible for basketball
to organize in a similar fashion as does Little league in baseball, AYSO in soccer, and Pop Warner in football.

There's an organization in San Diego that is considering "branding" of its name in multiple sports,
with a focus on basketball.
They want to bring all basketball groups like AAU, NJB, High 5, all travel/club, and middle school and high schools
under one roof to teach sportsmanship, offer good instruction, educate for scholarship opportunities, and the credentialing/registration of coaches, etc.

Does something like this exist in your area?
Do you think it can be accomplished?
If yes, please offer your suggestions.

Thank you.

It might be a good idea but I don't see all these different organizations giving up their authority.

Exclamation

There used to be, maybe still is, a program called Little Dribblers

As I recall, it was headquartered in Texas and had some regional participation (various locations in the United States)

A google search shows some hits, but very little.

I was interested, and a few years ago I had asked and received an information packet which looked legitimate, but "for futher information" phone numbers were not answered.

Perhaps it has gone away.

Remember that we have differing rules between states.

Some states use three whistle crews in parts of states and two in others.

Also in differing divisions by size of school.

Ohio uses a different coaches box rule which can vary by the number of bench personnel.

You also have the politics of each organization which will not want to relinquish the control they currently have.

Like asking two unions to merge.

Just my opinion

I remember when someone tried to unite the rec programs of three small towns that shared a regional high school to benefir the HS program. None of the local "czars" would give in, all claiming to have better "local rules".

Thanks

Tony, thanks.

I think that maybe it might be best to start something new and just offer a superior product.

We're blessed with good weather, great facilities, and many, many retired ex-players and coaches living in and around San Diego.

The SD Hall of Champions Museum is looking to support and "brand" basketball here and I've got verbal pledges from some influential Rancho Santa Fe businessmen, including current part-owners of pro teams.

If anyone has more suggestions, please post them.

Thanks again,
Barry Alman
