Would anyone know of any officials camps scheduled for this summer in Chicago? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone has state tournament games, how are they going?

http://www.ihsa.org will have a list of camps.

so does hometown.aol.com/jaylyons/hsbbpg1.htm

I take it from your name that you are a new official? Then I recommend Katzler's camp at Lake Forest and the IHSA camp in Bloomington.

Organization structure in Chicago

Yes, I am a new official and thank you for your recommendations, I will take you up on them.

Since I am new, I was wondering if anyone would explain the Official's organization structure and how I would go about joining it in Chicago. Secondly, any tips you may have to in order to approach this new adventure in such a way that I get the most out of it early on?

Thanks everyone!!

Lightbulb Re: Easy.

Easy, pick the one you like and join it. It is that simple. All associations have different rules and guidelines to join, but for the most part, you pay your dues for the year, you are a member.

Look up on the IHSA website (ihsa.org) and look under "Officials Associations." Call the contact person and see what he or she has to say. Everyone is very different, and you might join more than one for different reasons. It is all up to you. I am a member of 3 associations myself. Each has a different benefit.

I am also from Illinois. I have been to the IHSA camp at ISU twice and found it a great learning experience both on and off the floor. The clinicians care about the campers. Having heard Katzler at a clinic, his camp would be a tremendous time as well. Last summer I worked the UofI team camp and came away with some helpful experience. There you work the games by yourself (sometimes difficult), but you know that you can ref regular games after that experience.
