Thumbs up

Yesterday I traveled about an hour to welcome home our local troops from serving a little over a year in Iraq. This event was completely amazing!!!! I really don't know how to describe it. There was a huge crowd and well deserved welcome home to our troops. I highly suggest attending one of these in your area if you get the chance. It's something I'll never forget. AMAZING!

Were you in Paris, Illinois?

Good job TJ. Whether you agree with the war or not, those guys deserve our appreciation.

I knew it. They have been talking about this community all week. Glad you enjoyed the experience. It sounded like a special time and moment.

Article (from the San Jose Mercury News, of all places!):

I wish I could've brought my kids (13 and 10) there to show them the overwhelming support.

Wow. Five killed and 32 Purple Hearts just for this unit.

Yes, Tanner, that indeed sounds like a good event.
It'll be marvelous when our local National Guard returns.
When they'll be reunited with their friends, their families.
...They just landed in Kuwait on February 8th.

tj1,
A couple of those guys were from here. How long will your older brother be gone? He's with the Lawrenceville unit, right? Are they still at Ft. Stewart?

No they are at Ft. Camp Shelby in Mississippi. I'm not sure how much longer they will be in MI MS. However, I believe they are scheduled to be overseas for 18 months.

Edit: I need more sleep!

Actually, it is named Camp Shelby, unless it has been renamed. It is located 13 miles south of Hattiesburg - my home town and the home of the University of Southern Mississippi. It is a big National Guard training site and units from all over the south train there. I worked for the Army Audit Agency for 20 years and we did a lot of National Guard audits (these were fun jobs) in MS, GA, NC, TN, etc., and we went to Camp Shelby with some of the units when they did their 2-week summer camp.

Being a veteran, it makes me feel good when people support our troops. I personally disagreed with Bush on Iraqui, but I do support our men and women doing their job.
