Now preface this that is intermurals, the world of the warning. In most cases I have the opportunity to warn a player if they bring their elbows up. Tonight finally had a swinger before I could warn them.

The game was polite and cordial, 30 point blow out. No problems before or after the incident. But here's what happens.

B1 shoots, A1 rebounds. B2 (a shorter player) begins putting immediate pressure on A1 on the block. Possibly could've missed a slap on the wrist or something, but no foul. Within a second or two, A1 begins swinging his elbows with the ball to clear the area. He swings left, right, then left. I need to stop him from swinging and blow my whistle. No way to really justify stopping play for a warning without a turnover and the only real violation I could think of was the technical foul, since there was no contact I couldn't call a foul.

No problems or complaints from the guilty party or their teammates. No problems the rest of the game.

After the game one of my partners mentions he thinks that there is actually a violation I can call instead of a technical. He couldn't cite the rule but made a good point about a technical foul raising the stakes of the game which was in control.

So I come to my favorite resource for answers. Is there something that can stop play without resulting in a technical foul?

Thanks in advance.

Brad

Used to be a tech, now it's just a violation.

Yep, it's a violation. Unless, like you said, contact is made, then it's a foul.
