Question

I need some expert advice.

Player A dribbles to the low post with player B blocking the way.

Player A has back to player B and basket.

Player A turns and shoots.

Player B stands there with arms straight up.

When Player A shoots his arms his player B's hands.

Was there a foul?

Thanks!

jim1976,
Defender did everything correctly.
Offense initiated contact.
No call.

Just play-on! Incidental contact comes to mind here.

No call. However, I see first/second year officials make this call and it's probably due to that they think they've got to make some call. Anyways, the point here is never bail out the shooter.

Also...many player and coaches think this actually is a defensive foul (incorrectly, of course).

The other thing is, once you notice this, start looking for the kids who move there arms and DO foul the player, then real quickly put there arms straight up and give you the "What did I do?" look as they try to make you look stupid.
