Under NFHS rules, how many Ts can you give out to a single coach or player?

Heard of a sitch the other night where Coach got 2nd T and refused to leave the gym, so official gave him another [3rd] and still wouldn't leave so he earned a 4th.

At what point does one start to consider forfeit as an option?

We're told to give him one minute to leave, after the 2nd T. Then we find game security and have him escorted out.

If the coach refuses to leave, and I've had it happen twice, I've told the timer to start a 5:00 count and if the coach is still in the gym in 5 minutes the game will be forfieted.

Now having said that, I like the minute idea, and next time this happens which hopefully isn't for a while, I'll give him a minute instead of 5. Because according to a wise poster here, 5 minutes is to long to give him to rant.

Under NFHS rules there is no limit to the number of technical fouls that an individual can be charged.
You could have a situation where a player is DQ'd for receiving two Ts and then while sitting on the bench he says something unsporting and is issued a third.

I would certainly try not to give an adult a third before he left the gym. If a third T was really warranted on an adult I would definitely be considering ending the game.

Under NCAA rules, no player or coach may be issued more technical fouls than necessary for an ejection.

Section 2. Penalties Resulting in Ejection
Art. 1. Anyone who is assessed the following shall be ejected:
a. Two direct technical fouls.
b. (Men) One intentional technical foul with one direct technical foul.
c. Three indirect technical fouls.
d. Two indirect technical fouls with one direct technical foul.
e. Two indirect technical fouls with one intentional technical foul.
f. Any flagrant foul.
Note: The indirect technical fouls that can be part of these combinations are defined
in Rules 10-3.1 through 10-3.7 for the head coach and Rules 10-3.8 through 10-3.19 for the player.
Art. 2. When a player, member of bench personnel or coach has been ejected for having incurred the maximum number of technical fouls, no additional technical fouls shall be assessed.

I don't what NFHS Rules were like in 1984-85, but during my first year in basketball (manger of our 6th grade team), we hosted an end of year tournmanet and one of the other team's coaches got 5 technical fouls - 1 for having a sub run onto the court during a live ball and 4 for arguing with the officials.

I am willing to bet (and hope) that I never see a coach get 5 T's again.

YMCA last weekend. I gave coach his 2nd T, and my partner goes to inform him that he's done. He proceeds to call his kids in for a "pep talk" of sorts. My partner informs him that if he says another word to the players, it will be a T on the new head coach.
Two seconds later, whack. Partner then informs all within ear shot that one more T will result in a forfeit as their coaches will have been ejected. P was obviously upset with this coach (I've mentioned him before) but stayed in control. I doubt I'll see him again in YMCA games. AAU, on the other hand, could be fun.
