HS varsity game last week - I noticed the operator would change the possession arrow as soon as the player received the ball out-of-bounds, instead of waiting for the inbounds play to complete. Although, the likelihood of this causing a problem is pretty low, the same school is hosting the boys and girls region tournament next week.

As a spectator, how would you approach the situation?

1) not my job, don't worry about it
2) in a friendly way, talk to the operator before the first game
3) before the first game, tell an official what you've noticed, and let the official decide how to deal with it.

I figure option 3 is best, but don't want to be more of a pain in the rear than I usually am.

Let it go.
Enjoy the game and let them deal with it. Chances are, if there were a problem, the officials would be able to fix it. I suppose if you know any of the people involved well enough, you might be able to fix it. But if they don't know you, it would be hard to come of as anything but an overly anal fan.

Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union

Rule 6-3-4 The direction of the possession arrow is reversed after an alternating possession throw-in ends or when the throw-in team violates.

Adaptation #8 The alternate possession arrow shall be changed when the ball is placed at the disposal of a player for the throw-in.

Snaqs, I know you know but nobody else knows,so you didn't want to confuse anyone!

Of the adaptations that the Girls Union has made, this is my personal favorite. I wish NFHS would go that route.

I have been trying to get David Stern's number for a couple years now to address some similar situations I've seen in The Association.

Thanks, Snaqwells. I kinda thought it would sound that way.
