I did three YMCA games last night with a high school kid. He told me before the first game that it was his third game reffing. I had to go fishing a little bit, but not too bad.

I've never seen someone with such happy feet after a call. He'd blow his whistle, and his feet would start dancing around. He asked me for advice. There were a few rules things, but the only thing I really offered him was to slow down. It really gave me a different perspective on the importance of taking your time on your calls.

Yup. He had it all, too.
Foul tips. Whistle before every inbound. Wanted to grab the ball after a basket. Hardly any communication with me on his calls.

I will say, though, that I really had a lot of fun reffing with him.

Did you tell him there's no reason to go to overtime at a Y game? I'm assuming that was the overtime in the post.
