Is there a rule for this situation?

Team A is leading and team B is in a zone. Team A is near the 1/2 court line and chooses not to advance the ball while team B stays back in the zone.

Does the official motion for team B to come out and apply "token" pressure? or Can team B (because they are down) simply stay back and let time run down?

If they are satisfied with their efforts, there is no rule like in boxing that we have to "force action".

Also, I wouldn't consider it delaying of the game unless they were doing something which prevented the ball from being put into play. If the clock is ticking, then the game is on. Just maybe it's not very exciting.

Is this some sort of rec league that has a "no zone defense" or other weird-type rule? If so, you're going to have to call the league office, as none of us here would know the specifics of your situation.

If you'd like, I'm sure MTD, Sr. could give you the rundown on the old lack of action rules, but those haven't been in effect for many years. Under pure NFHS rules, what you've described is perfecly legal, and is actually how my alma mater won it's last state championship in basketball.

Had this happen the other night. They were able to eat 35 seconds each time they got the ball.

No shot clock in my HS league - our coach would eat 2, 3, 4 minutes off of the clock.
