I know just how you feel.

The first night of league play was called off tonight here. Two to three feet of snow depending upon exactly where you are. Schools were closed Monday and Tuesday. We'll see about make-ups.

74 and sunny is pretty damn good!

I'll take my 74 and sunny in the summer. At least I know when I get home on any given evening, my house will still be there, in one piece.

No earthquakes, volcanos, or tsunamis on the right coast. :)

And the last tsunami on the left coast was...

1964, near as I can tell. I thought I'd read of a more recent one that was "harmless" (no deaths), but I can't verify that now.

That's about right I think. I was a little tyke at the time, but if I remember correctly, Oregon suffered little if any damage in 1964. I don't know about California. But here in the "balmy" Willamette Valley, we're relatively free from natural disaster. We have our times of bad weather, and the occasional river out of the banks, otherwise it's pretty darn average.

Nothing like living in a place that's average. :)

We rarely get snow here in Western Washington. They are predicting some for this weekend. Usually it's a false alarm so hopefully they'll be wrong again.

It had better not snow because I have a huge rivalry game Friday night with a packed house and two great partners.

Z

Just checked the weather report. Wish I hadn't. 12-16 inches in the next day and a half.
"Some Beach."

Iowa, right? I was flying home last night (I travel for my job) through Minneapolis and noticed EVERYTHING to Iowa was cancelled yesterday AND today.

Flying out tomorrow. Lots of snow wouldn't disappoint me too much :)

Yup, central Iowa. If there had been any games tonight (high schools don't play on Wednesdays here), they'd have been cancelled. Churches are all cancelling tonight.

I'm not a big fan of the stuff. :)

In my neck of the woods (Atlantic Canada), I usually lose a few games to snow storms etc.... This year, I actually gained a game. Two weeks ago, a snow storm cancelled school (I teach) but not a local tournament. A ref who was scheduled to come in from out of town cancelled because of the bad roads and I ended up doing that game.

This year has been relatively light in terms of precipitation, but the forecasted low for tonight is -20 Celsius. That converts to -4 Fahrenheit. Got to go start a fire.

Correct - resulted from a 9.0 earthquake in the Gulf of Alaska. Seaside/Cannon Beach area was hardest hit. I believe the death toll was 3 or 4 (it got some folks that were camped on the beach).

74* and sunny???????

I would do anything for 74* and sunny as I have all ready had a bad start to my new year. I had a game on Sunday that was 5 1/2 hours away. I saw that there was a huge ice storm there so I took off the day before and it took me almost 10 hours to get there. I Stayed the night and took my time getting back home. Then on Tuesday I had a game almost 3 hours away and it took me 5 to get there going through a blizzard. When I walked in the door the athletic director told me that he had booked a room for me at a local hotel and said that there was no way that he was going to let me go back home that night. I stayed the night and drove back home on Wed..... only to find out my game on Wed night had been cancled.

So Give Me 74* and sunny any day!!!!!

Okay, where I live it has been -4 degrees fahrenheit for the last two weeks, with snow every other day or so. Today, we got a break and it warmed up - to 19. But tomorrow it's supposed to get back down to -13.

Stop, I repeat, stop your bellyaching :p

The weather officially sucks here in IL. I am pulling my second all nighter in a row to make sure our basement doesn't get out of hand!

NE Texas, Tuesday night I drank 4 bottles of water during my game. It was 76 deg and very humid. Today is different. We had a low of 32 last night.

One redeaming feature about cancelled games. Especially when you get into conference play is that the games have to be made up. When I lived in Colorado, I had a final weekend of the season where I called Thursday night, Friday night, and three different gyms of Saturday. Morning, aftenoon and night. My mentor was calling the varsity at the final gym. He tried to give me his game. I told him I was worn out and I would watch him.

Last winter, in Portland, we had a solid week of school and games, cancelled. This wasn't just namby-pamby Portland-ers overreacting to a little snow. About half the people in the city literally couldn't get out of their houses, or get their cars out of the driveways. Over four hundred games were cancelled, only about 50 (crucial varsity games) were made up. I lost nearly $300 in game fees.

Yep - worst snow/ice storm we've had since the winter of 68-69. We don't get hard real often, but when we do it's interesting. Ultimately I think we did get most of the JV & Varsity games made up though - I know I wound up working 11 doubles in the 4 weeks following the storm.
