I would like some help from people already using systems for mentoring young officials. I have been given the task of developing a mentoring system for our association. We had 150+ new members this year, and our association calls over 8,000 games per season. So you can see the magnitude of what I have to figure out. Any emails for what is working well for your group would be appreciated greatly, as I prefer not having to reinvent the wheel, just take wheels that are round and work and put them on my car instead. Thanks for your help.

150 new members! You are doing something right. The system we use is that we have all the veterans who want to mentor sign up. If not enough veterans sign up to be a mentor then some will have to take two mentees. During the year, we will want the mentor and mentee to either work two games together or mentee work the JV where the Mentor is working the varsity. Once in December and once in February. last year I was a mentee to a man who had two mentees so I would work the game with his other mentee while He worked the varsity. That way he could watch us both and get his duty over with. We allow officials with up to 3 years expereince to ask for a mentor. We also encourage unofficial mentoring especially where separate JV and Varsity officials work. Good luck and hopefully you may retain many of those new members.
