Don't worry what fans think of your calls cause they don't have the guts to step on the court and do it themselves. So don't worry about them, about 99.5% of them have no idea what's going on, they just like to hear themselves b**ch and complain.

I think I got a couple of goose bumps just reading this! I love these types of plays. A lot of officials will not make this call. IMO, every call like this pushes you up a little higher. We cannot get caught up on the emotions of the game whether it is a call against the home team or the correct call against a team making a comback. Good post!

I find myself during a game hoping that the point guard or whoever has the ball pulls up for a jumpshot rather than drive the lane and I have to make the call one way or the other. What do I need to do? toughen up and let it roll off me and go on with the game. I try to get as much info from all the partners that I work with which helps a little. But sometimes there no help. Any advice would be helpful. thanks, chris
Your're not there to make people happy. Your're there to officiate a basketball game. You can't do the job if your're worried about pleasing the coaches or fans. Remember after a tough call 50% of the people will like you. Most President's would be thrilled with such an approval rating!!!!!!! My advice to you would be to have a
a complete grasp of the rules (increases your confidence when you need to apply them) and have excellent mechanics. Remember this is a dog and pony show. If you look good out there people will think (most are clueless when it comes to the rules) you know what you are doing and you will have more credibility. When you do make a call be strong. Blow the whistle LOUD and have excellent mechanics when you signal foul or violation. Trust me it will get better.

Good luck and have a great season.
