Exclamation

Two nights ago our crew had a situation where a player slapped the backboard when he was trying to block a shot of the offensive guy. My question is this: If it was unintentional, do we leave it alone and play goes on? Also, if the slap vibrated the backboard and rim can you call a goaltend? Who is supposed to make the call, Trail or Center?

Unintentional=No call.
Intentional= T. T called by official responsible for shot.
No goaltending or basket interference is called.

unintentional slap (going for blocked shot) leave it alone...

can not call goaltending if they don't touch the ball...

and trail or C can take care of it if it is a goal tending/basket interference situation

You might not have a goaltending if they DO touch the ball either.

Remember, ball above the rim, downward flight, with a chance to go in. There is no mention of a backboard on a goaltend, the defender can block the shot AFTER it hits the backboard as long as none of the other 3 qualifications are there.

The bottom line is you have to make a quick decision and not hesitate or seem to be uncertain. It is a bang-bang play and you and your crew must stick together.
