In Colorado: 3-person by leauges during the season. Most Metro leagues use it, rural ones don't. Playoffs are 3-person at all levels. 3-person $42.50 2-person $51.00.

In Iowa, a few conferences have gone to three-whistle. As far as I know, all tournament games are still two-whistle.

Michigan - 3 Man for Varsity ONLY....all other levels are going 2 Man.

There are many states for which I still need information, so I am bumping this thread back to the top as the season starts and hopefully many officials will start returing to the forum. If you do not see your state listed, please post for me. For example, VA and DC area, I know you are out there! Thanks.

Az all 2 man, except for a few holiday tournaments. A couple of levels use 3 man in the state tournament.
$45 a game plus $5 dollars mileage in metro areas. State tournament is 1.5 times the game fee of $45 for 2 and $40 for 3. |

MI crew and fees
Robmoz mentioned that MI is running 3-person crews for varsity only. It is conference specific. I agree that *most* conferences, for boys varsity games, are hiring 3-person crews. There are, however, a few holdouts where 2-person crews handle boys varsity games. For girls varsity games, I am not aware of *any* conferences using 3-person crews (i.e., all 2-person); it may be different in the Eastern part of the state.
It is my understanding that for the playoffs, girls and boys, 2-person crews handle District assignments and 3-person crews handle Regional through Championship assignments. Although there are some conference differences, most varsity games are $55. Playoffs pay less! District assignments pay $45, Regional pays $50 and Quarterfinal through Final pays $55. |
Kentucky varies to some degree, but in the Bluegrass area (central KY), approximately 70% of varsity regular season games are done with three person. All post season games are 3 person.

Kansas is almost entirely 3-man.
I can't vouch for the smalles schools in Western KS, but everything else is 3-man for sure. |
Ohio -- The majority of the leagues/conferences uses 3 person crews for varsity boys regular season. There are very few that use 2 man crews. On the girls side the 3 person crew is not used in as many leagues/conferences as the boys but I would still say more use three than don't. Regular season fees vary throughout the state $40 - $65 for a varsity game.
Three person crews are used for both boys and girls in OHSAA Tournament play, Sectional>District >Regional>State. I think fees start at $50 with a little more at each level, capping at $70 for State games. At each level you get paid mileage. I cannot quote the mileage rate because each of the five Districts in the state pays a little different (i.e. .25 per mile round trip or .35 per mile one way). It is not until the Regional/State level that OHSAA pays a set mileage. |
South Carolina - All Boy's & Girl's Varsity games (regular season and tournament) are 3 person officiated.

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmmmm!"
When this topic arises, it always amazes me that the South, which has always been considered behind everyone in everything, is the leader. NC, SC, VA, GA, FL, all requiring 3 man for public school games.
