Handchecking:
1) NFHS rule 10-6-1
2) Case book play 10-6-1SitF
3) 2003/04 Points of Emphasis on page 70 of rule book- 2A

After you read these, you may have more specific questions.

in the backcourt, and contact between the defensive players hands and the ball carrier.

Except for the back court part, sounds like a legal tackle.

ref18,
I was teasing about your "ball carrier".
Yeah, I knew what you meant.

What difference does it make whether it's in the FC or BC?

The evaluator that told me this, just said that any contact in the back court in unnecessary and should be penalized as soon as it happens. He really didn't put much emphasis on any frontcourt situation when explaining this. I'd probably be a little more lax on calling the handchecks this quickly in the front court.

If contact is a foul in the BC, the same contact is a foul in the FC. There is no difference.

I'm not arguing that, this is just what the evaluator told me and its how I adjusted my game to accomadate that point.
