Question

I watch my local High School Team play most of their games. I am confused when I see the point guard pass the ball to forward who then takes one dribble then lays it in the basket.
This to me, I thought was an assist. But the official scorer said because he dribbled the ball it is not. Can anyon help me here?

In my opinion (humble as it is), this would be an assist. Had the forward needed to "shake & bake" or create the scoring chance on his own after receiving the pass, then maybe not.

It would be the same as the point guard leading a 3 on 1 upcourt, throwing a nice bounce pass to A2 at the free throw line, who then takes 1 or 2 dribbles and lays it in. To me, that is an assist....
