You would have to ask that association. Not something we can accurately tell you about here. Many are so different and offer many different things. We can give you a general idea, but the people in your area would be better to ask that question to. They really can be vastly different.

What kind of Association?

Are you talking about an Official's Association. Or are you talking about a State Association?

A State Association in my state only licenses the officials to work HS games. The IHSA specifically administers the Part 1 Exam and promotes the officials. I know this is not the case in all states. So this might not be something that applies to your area.

All an Official's Association does in my area, is train and run camps for training. In most cases, the Official's groups do not even assign games. There are many around the country that does.

That is just a snippet of what an "Association" can do for you.

Peace

What do you get?...

Ummmmm, let's see, you get heartache, you get underpaid...
you get frustrated, you get to spend less time with your family, you get to hear ignorant comments from fans, coaches and players, you get abuse, you get to spend your own money to get better(camps), you get to buy neat polyester clothes, you get to study rules upon rules.

Oh yeah, and you get what might possibly be the most rewarding experiences you'll ever have!

Brandan,

As others have said, "what you get" varies by association.

Ours provides some basic floor training, holds eight meetings per year where we discuss issues on and off the floor, provides game assignments, holds a year-end party and awards, awards scholarships to summer officials camps, administers the NFHS test and sends it to the state officials office for youand also video tapes officials (lots more than that, but that's off the top of my head).

In georgia, you are required to join an association. the association assigns all games for you as well as the region tournament. we meet every week starting in mid october and have tests and on floor training.
