How is everyone doing? I'm a long time reader and rare poster. I have not officiated in about a year but am refereeing eight games this weekend in a local high school tournament. I have refereed many games before; yet, they were over a year ago. I feel like I am getting ready to officiate the first ever game of my career. Does anyone have any tips or strategies that I can use to get "back in the groove?" Any advice on making myself comfortable once the game starts or do I just need to be patient and wait for that comfort feeling to come back? Thanks.

I think the most important thing to do is to make sure you have the mechanics (positioning and signals) down. Then go over any rules you are hazy on. Being in the right place and using the signals like a pro will help you get into the flow again.

If you can, get to the games early and try to watch a game or two before yours. Concentrate as much as you can on the refs - that can often get you thinking in an officiating mode.

Same thing with watching basketball on TV - force yourself to watch off-ball, watch rotations, etc.

Talking

So you dont wet yourself, go before you get on the court.

JUST KIDDING!!

Great time to get back in the game. Most of it is like riding a bike, you'll get it back.

Sounds like all the advice you've gotten has been great.

Most of all... enjoy yourself
