I had two plays tonight that you rarely see.

1- A1 makes a throw-in. The pass hits the side of the backboard and hits the floor inbounds. A1 steps inbounds and recovers the ball. What's the call?

2- A1 throws a long pass to a wide open A2. But the pass is high and goes off A2's hands. As the ball is bouncing toward the baseline, A2 saves the ball, steps OOB, steps back in and recovers the ball. What's the call?

#1 -- illegal. I'm not sure what to call it -- a throw-in violation?

#2 -- depends on what you mean by "A2 saves the ball". If he just swats it, then his momentum carries him OOB and then he steps back onto the floor, before he "recovers the ball", it's legal. If saving the ball means he gets in a dribble or two, then I'd call it illegal -- out of bounds, and possession to B.

#1-violation for failure of the thrower-in to have the ball touch a player on the court before he touches the ball.
