Hey, I got a solution that covers everything. At the game, get a coke (regular, not diet) and pour it in a glass. Throw your whistle in the coke for about 5 minutes. Do not leave your whistle in there longer than 5 minutes or you won't have a whistle left (Don't believe me? Put a penny in a coke sometime and leave it there- and see what happens!). When you pull your whistle out, it will be completely cleaned of gunk and will also be germ free. As for the gunk? That will either dissolve in the coke and give it a little extra tang, or it will float to the surface and you can then pick it out for a germ-free pre-game snack.
