Talking

I posted this on rainmaker's thread "It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This"

I thought a thread for weekend championships might be fun.

I did a boy's JH and a girls' JH championship. Lots and lots of fun. Packed gym, a great announcer, lots of noise. Oh, and a good partner. Worth all the work to have these evenings.

I concur

What a blast. Last night's game was played in a high school gym with about 800 people watching and screaming.

The game was won by one point on a last second three at the horn. The blue coach burning his last TO with 8 seconds on the clock set up the play.

I was careful to talk with the table and set up help in the event the horn didn't work as time expired. Do you do this? The clock person is responsible for watching time expire and the book person watches the shooter. Trail is responsible for the play. In any event the horn worked and we didn't need the help.

It was my first championship in that type of environment. The sound of the crowd erupting as the shot went through is one I'll never forget.

I love this game!

The table crew are considered game officials and it is acceptable to do what you did. However, I think it looks better to decide the last second shot on the court. At that 8-second timeout, get together with your partner to go over game ending scenarios.

To me, having the horn blow a the same time the ball is released and then running to the table to sort it all out just does not look good and would appear that the officials are not doing their job.

Just my opinion and I fully expect that some may not agree.
