Talking

, Okay I was doing a freshman girls game last night. There is only about 40 people in the stands total. I've been to funerals that have had more noise.

Why I think there ought to be a rule is that if your playing a game there should be at least 100 people in the stands to make enough noise that my 1 on 1 talks with a coach remain between me and her.

She was whining about every call on her and making up every call on the other end. So I first try on the run past her, "Coach, I don't need help in my officiating". She keeps going and I finally go over on a dead ball to talk but keep getting interrupted by "helper Dad". I even covered my mouth and talked low and he can still hear us.

Oh well any suggestions aside from going outside???

Try throwing up the stop sign and let the coach know,
I've heard enough.

Now everyone in the gym knows the situation if it continues
call the T.

I applaud your tactful approach. It seems a reasonable response considering the level of play. You were on the right course but you seem hesitant to continue with your game administration here.

You took the first step - a brief discussion during a dead ball. If helper dad was riding you in any way, you have to address that here.

If the offending behavior continues, give her the stop sign. You may need to clarify what that means to her to include a quick explanation of bench conduct (helper dad) if needed.

Communicate with your partner that the warning has been given. If the behavior continues, nail her with the T.

Trying to be diplomatic only works to a point. You have to take care of business...or buy a more comfortable saddle. By the way, try to take care of this early. Don't let her ride you for three quarters then decide to address it. By then it's "Hi ho Silver...."

I agree. Your first efforts were allowing her to save face with her team. She failed to comply. Now be firm enough and clear enough that all 40 can witness that you have had enough. Then whack if you have to.
