I thought this was interesting:

Quote:

"Unlike college basketball, high school refs in Indiana aren't assigned to games. They have to find their own work, and are booked through communication with athletic directors. Opat is already booking games through 2007."
I don't even know where I'm going to be living in 2007.

Imagine what it's like for an experienced official moving into a place like this. Same thing I've experienced here in WI -- no games available because the assigning commisioners have booked years in advance. Some guys work 5 games a week while others scratch to get the 16 minimum to maintain their rating with the state office.

Rich,

It is as hard on you to move to Indiana as you think. I moved to Indiana from Georgia 4 years ago. I was working about 75% varsity while in Georgia. After 4 years in Indiana, I had 5 varsity games on the schedule for this year. Basketball is usually done 2 or 3 years in advance. My football crew already has a set schedule for 04, 05, 06, and we only have 3 openings in 07. Here, you have to be able to play the political game with AD's. Only a few areas actually have assigners.
