So, I have one of those games last night. League game, rivalry game, Boys JV crash up derby. Coaches wound up, fans would up, players wound up....you know the kind. So I ask for tape. There were about 10 block charge calls and a Tech for a dead ball push. Type of game I would love to break down...

"We only tape varsity"

Coaches want us to do a good job. In some leagues or given games, its so physical that we are desperate for that third official...God forbid we get tape so we can actually break a game down, learn from it and be better the next time.

I know, I know, its JV, no one cares.

I've heard the suggestion "bring your own camera"....what am I supposed to do if they actually dont bother to tape the games?

Bring your own camera is a fine suggestion, however....Who's gonna do the filming? Kind of looks silly to be reffing a game while holding a video camera. Also, some schools will actually charge admission to the person who will be doing the taping for you, since they are not considered part of the officiating team or any other "participating" team. Any of you have experience with this?

I had one of these kinds of games last year and the school promised a video tape. I finnaly got the tape two weeks ago.

Most schools in my area will not charge admission for someone that comes in with the officiating crew. I guess that changes from area to area and school to school.

Most of your friends should be willing to tape the game for you, if you offer them a pop or beer after the game. If not, maybe they're not really your friends!

If you want to get taped, it's up to you.

Our local association tapes any officials who want a game taped. Most camps will give you a tape.

Find a parent that taped their kid during the game. They might be willing to burn you a copy.

Any big assignment I get, I get it taped. I find someone to tape it for me, and I have a video camera for them to use.

I approach the admissions people about 2 hours before game time and tell them a person named __________ will be coming to the game. They are there to videotape officials and are part of the officiating crew. I have never had a problem. My help never pays and they're often allowed extra leaway when it comes to where he may go.

I just now returned a tape I got from a JV player's parents. There was a couple of things I wanted to check. Ask the coach, he usually will know what parents are filming their kid.
