becoming an official

I live in new york state, putnam county. I am very interested in becoming a basketball official. How do I pursue this? Thank you.

There are several ways to do that. Go to your local HS and ask the Athletic Director how they get there officials. You can talk to an official at a local game. You can search online for your states HS athletic website. And you could also have an official here tell you some of that information. Unfortunately, I am not from NY state and do not have that information, but it would not be hard to find.

Bill, there's an IAABO (International Association Of Approved Basketball Officials) board that services Putnam County. You should probably contact that board's secretary, Anthony Alfonso. His e-mail address is [email protected].
