Player obtains his 5th foul. pulls his shirt over his head and runs off the court before the coach or player is told it is his 5th foul.
Is this a player T foul or a bench technical foul? IT would seem the player is still a player on the court and this would make it a player T? Correct? Stew in Va CVBOA |

It would depend completely on the rest of the circumstances for me. If there is no attempt to "show up" anyone, and the kid is just leaving, I would be hard pressed to call a T. The ball is dead, there really is no damage, and as long as it is basically done in a sportsmanlike way, why muddy the waters? get the sub and move along in my book anyway.

I think this is the exact reason I wish we weren't supposed to tell the coach first. If we tell the player first and he pops off the T is on him. If we tell the coach and then the player, which we are supposed to do, then he pops off the coach gets charged too, even though he didn't have the opportunity to cool him off. |
