Does anyone count the 10 sec. count on free throws and if you do have you ever called it. I have quit counting this count after counting for 27 years and approximately 2000 varsity games, 18 state tournaments, 40 regional tournaments etc and never having called it, I just thought what a redundant count and I have just calculated that I have spent no less than 4 days of my life counting with a wrist flick for a call I have never made. If it comes up I will just guess because according to a lot of fans that is how I come up with my calls anyway!! Now, four days is nothing when you are young and are going to live forever but when you are older and your perspective is changed, your idealism will change to realism and you will decide to guess, too!

hey, I have to stand there anyway...so what better way to pass the time than to flick my wrist....yes I do count, in our area an evaluator will ding you for that and for not stepping down on the free throws that may become live...called it? no and I also hope to go 27 years without calling it...I also would like to go 27 years without calling a 3 second call, but chances are I won't be able to so I will be ready when the time comes

I called it last week, first time in 18 years.
A1, fouled in the act. Ball administered, I'm not really counting, elaborate routine, he takes forever. Maybe I better count this time. 9, 10, 11, 12. I figured that was enough. TWEET! Coach, yells, "I told you somebody was going to call it on you sooner or later!" ![]() |

Never have..never will
We stopped the wrist flick several years ago and now just count in our heads. I've been in our organization for 17 years, over 140 officials and it's never been called once and I don't expect it to be called in the future.

Had an evaluator at a D1 tryout ask me if I had ever called the violation or even been close to calling it.
No and no. He said, "then stop counting." So I did.

Yes, we do it cuz' we're good soldiers and we're supposed to. Keeps me focused... I might fall over if I wasn't doing something.
Never called it, but I did get to 11 once and told the shooter that I would call it next time I got to 10. He shot at about 4 after that. Z |

Called it once last year.
Coach: "What was that for." Ref: "10 seconds" Coach: "I've never heard of that" Ref: "Why do you think I'm standing here counting?" Coach: "I know the rule. I've never seen it called." Ref: "I've never called it before. I got to nine on her first shot." Coach: "I know she takes forever. but I told her to use the exact same routine on each shot." If the infractions increase by 1% or I can have the four days of my life back(my original post), I will take the four days and guess. In reality, when the slow shooter with the long routine shoots the first shot that I see that is a little on the slow side then I will count the rest of his/her shots. But until I see a slow shot, I ain't counting anymore!! I've contributed enough to the game for this count and the rest of the days of my life are mine!! Most of the guys working on TV are using a) a silent count or b) checking out the cheerleaders!!
