A dead ball occurs after each basket is scored, 6-7-1, and is part of the correctable error equation, 2-10-2. If A had inbounded the ball after B's basket, then the play would no longer have been correctable. MREUROREF was fortunate that the scorer and timer noted the error and buzzed the horn before it was too late to correct.

In the case you describe above when did you stop play?
you must recognize this error prior to the ball becoming live after B's basket (if A had the ball OOB attempting
a throw in the ball became live at that point). If the error was recognized in time all points scored and any time
used is still counted. You would put A on the FT line
(lane cleared) for one shot, and then give A the ball on the endline for a throw-in still able to run the endline during the throw-in since there was a change of possesion and score(B's rebound and score).

Oh, no! Here I was feeling so smug because of all the time I spent this summer working on memorizing the correctable error stuff, and now I've got it wrong!?!?!?

Are you saying that as soon as a basket is made that dead ball counts and then the error is no longer correctable? I'm feeling very confused!

Almost. When a basket is made, the ball is dead. The error can still be corrected, though, up until the time the ball becomes live. Once the ball becomes live, then it's too late to correct the error.

Personally, I'd not spend so long memorizing this rule (unless you've got all the others down). When it happens, no one will know what to do, and even if you get it right, you'll be questioned, then you'll look it up after the game, then you'll make d*** sure not to have another. ;)

I am as big a UNC fan as the next guy, I even have wear a UNC BBall watch. But, watching the 4 corners is not a fun way to spend a friday night.
