The best advice I can give is to find someone's coattails to hang on to. Pick a mentor that is at a level that you would like to reach. When they have a game to work, tag along and watch. Ask them a ton of questions. It'll make them feel special.

Another tip would be to frequent this message board as often as possible. There are a ton of experienced guys and gals here. Just by reading their replies, you can learn a lot about game awareness and start to develop your own philosophy.
