I just read an article that pointed out that St. John's (MN) -- this year's NCAA D3 nat'l champs -- uses several jersey numbers for more than one player. The reason is that the head coach, John Gagliardi, never cuts anyone from the squad. Here's the roster list:

Isn't there some rule against this in football?

(I posted this same question on the football board. Sorry if you're reading it for the second time)

I have seen this at the D1 level before. Usually the players that share a number play on opposite sides of the ball; offense & defense. I have even seen an offensive starter and defensive starter that share a number.

As far as a rule that covers it... I don't know.

I posted twice, b/c I've posted over there a couple times without getting any replies. So I figured I'd try it over here too.

That's suprising, I haven't seen any threads of yours without a response.

Lightbulb We do not have a scorebook in football.

Players in football can have the same number as long as they are not on the field at the same time. It is very common to have players a the college level and even the HS level are going to have the same numbers. Bowl teams might dress over 100 players.

Peace
