Flagrant 2 Fouls in National Tournaments
 

So far we've had at least two flagrant two fouls in the national tournaments. One of them in the North Carolina Baylor game and one in the national semifinal of the D3 Men's tournament.

Was there a monitor in the D3 semis?

I wonder how much more crud we could clean up at the HS level if we had such a luxury. Probably quite a bit.

Although even a monitor wasn’t enough to hold Buddy Boeheim accountable for his sucker punch (at least not during the game). That was a shame.

Wow, it is shocking that all the bad behavior and dirty play comes to the surface in these types of games. My first career high school playoff game was marred by a fight in the first quarter (1:58 remaining) where both benches cleared, and thus the game resumed with four players for the visitors and three for the home team.

Good luck to the officials in the rest of the national tournaments, and hopefully no further nonsense happens.

Oh. Well, I guess that one didn’t need a monitor. Easy F2 call.

On a side note, it’s a Final Four venue and the court has more lines on it than most rec gyms. That’s a poor look, NCAA.

That play is an F2, even without a monitor. Extreme contact, potential for injury, and a non-basketball play. There is no justification for an attempt to rip off an opponent's head.

This occurred in the women’s Big East tournament.
The player was not ejected.

And the young lady was wearing earrings with tape over them. Wow. Did not eject the player and let her wear illegal jewelry.

I do not know the women's college rules, but if they have the same rules as the men do for F1 (men)/intentional (women), this was a personal foul, not a technical foul, therefore, the player who got elbowed in the face should be the one shooting the free throws. From the description by the announcers, it seemed like they were going to allow a different person to shoot the free throws. Also, do not know the women's uniform rules, but it would be unbelievably bad if they allowed a person to play the first 33 minutes of a game without noticing she has earrings on.

They don't have the same rules. Live ball contact can be ruled a technical and anybody can shoot.

Well, we did not see who shot the free throws. But in the Men's rule, if the player is hurt on a flagrant, then anyone can shoot the free throws the coach of the offended team picks. Not sure if the Women's rule reads in a similar fashion, even though this was not called a flagrant foul, so not sure the kind of foul in the overall classification is considered the same.

Maybe someone that works Women's college can explain?

NCAAW Rules: Anyone can shoot for an intentional foul. The ball is inbounded at the division line. This was (apparetnly ruled -- I didn't watch the whole video) an intentional foul

Art. 3. Technical, intentional, and disqualifying fouls — The free throws
awarded because of any technical, intentional, or disqualifying foul may be
attempted by any player or eligible team member on the offended team, who
shall be designated by the head coach or captain of the offended team. However,
the same player shall attempt both free throws.

Despite its pronunciation, just deserts, with one s, is the proper spelling for the phrase meaning "the punishment that one deserves." The phrase, using an older noun version of desert meaning "deserved reward or punishment," is spelled like the arid land, but pronounced like the sweet treat.

I looked it up before original post, wasn't sure myself.

Over my life, I've probably said it, or heard it, dozens of times, but never saw it, or put it, in writing before.

In the Mens NCAA tournament game, NC v Baylor, the NC player did the same thing and was ejected from the game with about 10:00 remaining in the 2nd half. Hmmm

As he should have been.
